The group, comprising 17 members from the ministries of Transport and Public Security, V NAT and several tour agencies, pass ed through central Quang Tri province’s Lao Bao checkpoint into Laos. They also visit ed Thailand’s north eastern region and the Lao capital of Vientiane before returning to Vietnam through the Cau Treo border gate in Ha Tinh province on September 3.

In 1999, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) organized a "Thailand-Laos-Vietnam Friendship Caravan" to promote overland tourism under the "Three Country, One Destination" campaign.
